The South-West branch of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has pressed for the swift capture and trial of the criminals who murdered a marketing student at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic in Itori, Ogun State. The victim, who was in her final year, lost her life during a robbery incident in the Eruku area on Monday night.
This tragedy triggered significant unrest, leading students to block the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway on Tuesday, which brought traffic to a complete standstill. NANS South-West Coordinator Josiah Adeyemo, alongside local student leaders, visited the school to offer condolences. Adeyemo highlighted the urgent need for enhanced security, calling upon Governor Dapo Abiodun and top police leadership to station officers in neighborhoods where many students reside.
To address safety concerns, the student delegation consulted with the Eleruku of Eruku Kingdom, Oba Ajagungbade Gbadewolu Atobatele, who confirmed that ten local security agents are now patrolling the area. Meanwhile, Polytechnic Rector Goke Rauf expressed his grief and unveiled plans to construct on-campus housing, strengthen perimeter security, and upgrade infrastructure to better shield students from outside threats. The student leadership welcomed these plans but emphasized that the school must act immediately to regain student trust.
