Nigerian soldiers successfully defended the Forward Operating Base at Mayanchi, situated in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, after militants attempted to storm the facility. This defensive action ensured the continued safety of the vital Sokoto–Gusau highway, preventing any blockades or danger to travelers.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that a group of suspected terrorists arrived on motorcycles at approximately 5:05 p.m. on July 18, aiming to overwhelm the site. Troops already on the ground initiated immediate fire, and they were quickly supported by arriving reinforcements from the Fangaltama base.
This unified pushback caused the attackers to withdraw before they could penetrate the perimeter. The military noted that protecting this corridor is essential for maintaining supply lines and civilian traffic. Ongoing operations in the region aim to keep militant groups under constant pressure to restrict their mobility.
