Soldiers from Operation HADIN KAI have taken a foreign national into custody on suspicion of ties to ISIS. This arrest occurred during strategic maneuvers following an unsuccessful assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants against Cross Kauwa in the Kukawa area of Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who monitors the Lake Chad basin, confirmed that troops successfully turned back the insurgents. During the subsequent search of the rebels’ retreat paths, soldiers retrieved critical communication gear, including high-frequency radios vital to the group’s command structure.
Intelligence gathered from these devices prompted an expansion of the search into the Abadam region and the Lake Chad Islands. There, forces apprehended an individual of Moroccan descent suspected of maintaining connections with ISIS. Authorities identified the man after analyzing footage from a camera recovered from a militant cinematographer killed during the initial firefight at Cross Kauwa.
A Nigerian Air Force helicopter transported the detainee to a secure location. He is currently being questioned to determine his specific responsibilities regarding the terror group’s tactical planning, media operations, and communication networks.
