Martins Vincent Otse Claims Video Provoked Recent Benue Attacks

Martins Vincent Otse suggests a video shared by Fulani individuals sparked the deadly violence in Benue State, which has claimed at least 50 lives.

Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, alleges that a video clip shared with him by members of the Fulani community may have been the catalyst for the violent assault in Otukpo, Benue State. Reports indicate that suspected herdsmen targeted Akpachi and the Otukpo-Nobi community on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of approximately 50 individuals.

The violence is widely viewed as a retaliatory strike following the June 26, 2026, assassination of Alhaji Ardo Mohammed, the Benue State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria. Mohammed was targeted by unidentified gunmen immediately after a peace summit in the Ohinmini Local Government Area.

Addressing the tragedy via Facebook, Otse stated that he received a video from Fulani sources featuring an Idoma influencer gloating over the release of individuals previously detained regarding Mohammed’s murder. He suggested this content fueled the reprisal. Authorities have currently recovered 50 bodies, and many survivors remain in critical condition following the massacre.
