Spanish international Mapi Leon has signed a three-year contract with London City Lionesses after departing Barcelona. The 31-year-old defender leaves the Catalan club following a nine-year tenure where she secured 27 trophies, including the recent Women’s Champions League victory over Lyon. She reunites in London with her former teammate Alexia Putellas.
Leon, who has earned over 50 caps for Spain, expressed enthusiasm for the club’s development under the ownership of Michele Kang. She noted that after spending her career in Spain, she felt prepared for a new challenge within the English league. Her arrival adds significant experience to a roster that has already acquired high-profile talents like Mary Earps, Nicole Anyomi, and Janni Thomsen.
The defender previously took a multi-year hiatus from the Spanish national team due to structural disputes with the federation. She returned to international duty in October 2025 and participated in the Nations League title win against Germany. Leon aims to leverage her leadership skills to help London City Lionesses compete for European qualification in the upcoming season.
