Manchester United Acquire Goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Leicester City

Manchester United have signed goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Leicester City on a three-year deal following the activation of her release clause.

Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Leicester City for an undisclosed sum. The 27-year-old represents the club’s second addition this summer, following the recruitment of defender Andrea Medina.

It is understood that the former German youth international has committed to a three-year contract after United activated a release clause in her existing deal. Leitzig spent three years with Leicester, first arriving on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich before establishing herself as a first-team regular. Although she recorded nearly 70 appearances across all competitions, she was unable to prevent Leicester’s relegation from the Women’s Super League last term.

Reflecting on the move, Leitzig expressed her pride in joining the club and stated her intention to contribute her high-level experience to the squad. She will wear the number 25 shirt. Previously, Leitzig spent time at Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich, and she has been a long-standing transfer target for Manchester United since 2023.
