Philip Agbese, a House of Representatives member for Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo, has warned that the constant rotation of military leadership hampers counter-terrorism efforts. Speaking on TVC News, he explained that replacing service chiefs frequently creates instability, as new commanders need time to adapt, which allows insurgents to regroup and strike.
Agbese noted that the Armed Forces have achieved notable successes, including the rescue of over 1,000 hostages this year, and should be shielded from political agendas. He encouraged citizens to disregard social media misinformation that threatens national security.
Furthermore, Agbese suggested that Nigeria should consider exiting the International Criminal Court. He argued that the ICC has failed to address atrocities committed by terrorists while potentially exposing Nigerian soldiers to unfair prosecution. He asserted that Nigeria’s own judicial system is capable of handling human rights investigations and advocated for prioritizing national interests over international agreements that may restrict military operations.
