The Kano State branch of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a rebuttal to remarks from Governor Abba Yusuf regarding the party’s choice to abstain from the recent Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election. Governor Yusuf, through his spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, had suggested that the NDC’s non-participation indicated an impending victory for the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 polls.
Hussaini Isa Mai Riga, the Kano NDC Chairman, dismissed the governor’s comments as attempts to gain political advantage. He stated that the party is prioritising the development of a robust organizational structure across all 44 local government areas in preparation for the 2027 elections. Mai Riga clarified that skipping the by-election was a strategic decision intended to conserve resources for long-term objectives rather than a sign of weakness.
According to the chairman, the party is concentrating on grassroots mobilization, political education, and policy creation aimed at tackling economic challenges, insecurity, and unemployment. He expressed optimism that the party, supported by the Kwankwasiyya movement, would succeed in the upcoming gubernatorial race. Furthermore, Mai Riga advised NDC members to maintain composure and urged security services to uphold neutrality as political activities progress.
