Lagos PDP Warns Minister Wike to Stop Interfering in State Affairs

The Lagos PDP has slammed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, telling him to focus on his duties in Abuja after his recent criticism of Chief Olabode George.

The Lagos chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike following his disparaging remarks regarding former party deputy chairman, Chief Olabode George. In a statement released by party spokesperson Dr. Christopher Odianarewo, the PDP labeled Wike’s comments as an indication of a personal vendetta rather than professional conduct.

The tension stems from Wike’s claim that he successfully prevented Chief George from securing the party’s national chairmanship. The Lagos PDP dismissed this narrative, characterizing it as a revisionist attempt to rewrite history. They questioned why the Minister would feel the need to visit George’s residence for appeasement if he truly considered the veteran politician irrelevant.

Addressing claims about Lagos PDP’s electoral record, the party clarified that they have maintained significant representation in local and state government, refuting the suggestion that the party became stagnant after 1999. The statement emphasized that political influence is not merely defined by polling unit results.

Ultimately, the Lagos PDP advised Minister Wike to focus on his official duties in the Federal Capital Territory rather than attempting to influence Lagos politics. The party concluded by asserting that Lagos has its own distinct political identity, declaring that the political dynamics of Rivers State cannot be superimposed on Lagos.
