Lagos Authorities Close Oshodi Market After Assault on Sanitation Staff

Lagos state officials have shuttered the Oshodi Resettlement Market following a physical attack on sanitation officers during a Monday enforcement operation.

The Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the Oshodi Resettlement Market. This decision follows a violent confrontation involving members of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) during a routine enforcement mission.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the shutdown via his official X account. He stated that local merchants obstructed the officers while they were performing their assigned duties. The commissioner alleged that these individuals assaulted LAGESC personnel to stop the apprehension of suspected beggars and hoodlums.

Furthermore, officials reported that the agency’s vehicles sustained damage during the chaos. The confrontation occurred on Monday throughout the Oshodi district. While the market remains closed, the commissioner indicated that authorities are continuing their investigation and additional enforcement measures are currently underway.
