Wilson established an early 3-1 lead with notable breaks of 113 and 91. Although O’Sullivan fought back to lead 4-3, Wilson regained momentum by winning three straight frames with runs of 89, 79, and 97. Wilson will now face Mark Williams in the quarter-finals after Williams defeated Chris Wakelin 6-5.
Reflecting on the match, Wilson praised the high-quality contest and the vibrant atmosphere created by the Shanghai audience. The tournament provides a welcome distraction for Wilson, who recently dealt with a burglary at his home in June.
In other competition news, Neil Robertson overcame a 5-2 deficit to beat Xiao Guodong 6-5, despite Xiao recording a maximum 147 break. Additionally, Judd Trump advanced to the last eight by defeating Barry Hawkins 6-4.
