Kogi State Governor demands investigation into murder of Catholic priest

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has ordered security forces to investigate the killing of Rev. Fr Samuel Opeyemi and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has instructed law enforcement to launch an immediate investigation into the murder of Rev. Fr Samuel Opeyemi, a priest at St Paul Parish in Ayetoro Gbede. The governor has made it a priority to identify the attackers and ensure they face legal consequences.

Unknown assailants reportedly killed Rev. Fr Opeyemi and left his remains on a roadside within the Ajaokuta Local Government Area. Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, released a statement on Friday characterizing the incident as an intolerable act of violence.

The administration has urged security services to conduct a rigorous and professional inquiry to determine the facts of the case. In the official statement, the governor emphasized that all individuals involved in this crime must be held accountable. The government extended its sympathies to the Catholic community and the priest’s family, reiterating a firm commitment to capturing the perpetrators.
