Kano Shura Committee Suspends Sheikh Triumph Over Blasphemy Allegations
The Kano State Shura Committee has suspended popular cleric Sheikh Lawal Shuaib Abubakar, widely known as Sheikh Triumph, from teaching and preaching pending an investigation into allegations of blasphemy.
Committee secretary Shehu Wada Sagagi told journalists after a review meeting that both audio and video clips of the cleric’s sermons were examined before the decision was made.
“Today we met again to review the allegations against Sheikh Triumph. We listened to and watched his recorded sermons. We separated the accusations that had no evidence from those supported by evidence. Every verified point has been documented,” Sagagi said.
He added that the cleric would receive a formal letter to appear before the committee and defend himself. Until then, he remains suspended. The committee will forward its final recommendations to the government after his defense.
Reports suggest the allegations include making offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad (SAW), questioning parts of his birth story, and claiming the Prophet’s parents were in hell.
