Jurgen Klopp to take over as Germany national team head coach

The German Football Federation has confirmed that Jurgen Klopp is the top choice to replace Julian Nagelsmann as national team coach after a disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign.

The German Football Federation has officially announced its intention to name Jurgen Klopp as the new leader of the national squad. This decision comes in the wake of Julian Nagelsmann stepping down following a disappointing performance at the 2026 World Cup.

Germany was eliminated by Paraguay in a penalty shootout, marking the third consecutive early exit for the team at the global tournament. Previous failures included group stage knockouts in Russia and Qatar. Despite these setbacks, the former Liverpool boss is prepared to step into the vacancy.

A statement from the Federation noted that they intend to initiate discussions with Klopp immediately, noting that he has already indicated his interest in the job. The 59-year-old has been serving as the Sporting Director for Red Bull since departing Liverpool in 2024.
