A presiding judge has raised serious concerns regarding the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) handling of the case against Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac. Following a period where the defendant endured 23 days of home confinement followed by two days in agency custody, the commission requested a bail revocation to keep her detained until late 2026. The court denied this request, questioning if the prosecution had shifted toward a personal vendetta or a potential witch-hunt.
The central controversy involves claims over Plots 1861 and 1862. Evidence presented suggests these plots are linked to May Estate Agency and Famfam Nigeria Limited. However, the defence asserts that the complainant, Colleen Mero Yesufu, has never held a directorial or shareholder position within these companies. Critical questions remain regarding how these corporate assets became tied to her personal claim.
Further complications have arisen due to the disappearance of an authorization letter for one Shaka Braimah, who reportedly collected the title deeds from the FCT Department of Land Administration. Abdulhamid Wundil of the department acknowledged during cross-examination that this document cannot be located. This missing link is vital to understanding how the title documents moved from corporate entities to the complainant.
The judge emphasized that the court’s earlier orders were meant to ensure the defendant’s presence at trial, not to facilitate her extended detention. Given the unresolved questions regarding ownership and the missing documentation, the court indicated that the aggressive pursuit of the defendant’s liberty appears disproportionate and lacks the impartiality expected of a law enforcement agency.
