The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Iliyasu Musa, for the alleged murder of his ex-wife, Hadiza Sale, an incident that had sparked outrage in the community.
Police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, July 24, 2025. According to him, Musa, a resident of Dangewaye Village in Aujara District, had been on the run since July 10, when he reportedly attacked and killed Hadiza as she returned home from the market late at night.
“On July 23 at about 3:00 p.m., operatives attached to the Aujara Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Iliyasu Musa, who had been on the command’s wanted list for a case of culpable homicide,” the statement read.
Police investigations revealed that Musa had lain in wait near Hadiza’s home and struck her fatally on the head with a stick. The victim, aged 30 and from Afasha Village, was the mother of the couple’s six children.
The suspect was eventually tracked to Larabar-Tambarin-Gwani village, where he had been hiding. His arrest followed days of intensive intelligence gathering and tactical operations by law enforcement agents.
Musa is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse. Authorities say he will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
