Law enforcement in Jigawa State has taken a 20-year-old woman and a male nursing professional into custody regarding the kidnapping of a toddler from the Babura General Hospital. The incident involved an 18-month-old boy who was taken from the facility’s paediatric unit.
SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests on Thursday. Authorities were alerted by a distress report from the hospital staff. Following this, officers traced the suspect, Khadija Aliyu, to the edge of Babura town, where she was discovered with the missing child.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that Sadik Sale Yahaya, a 25-year-old nurse employed at the hospital, had allegedly worked with the woman to orchestrate the crime. During questioning, Aliyu admitted that she planned to transport the infant to a Kaduna State orphanage to sell him for N2 million. The child has since been moved to protective custody to await a reunion with his parents.
CP Tijjani Murtala, the Commissioner of Police, praised the officers involved for their swift response. He also encouraged the public to keep sharing reliable information with security forces to help maintain safety throughout the region.
