The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security agency announced the death of Abd al-Rahim Abd al-Hay Youssef Kardi, a high-ranking Hamas official. He was killed during an aerial strike in Gaza City on Thursday.
Israeli officials state that Kardi was involved in the October 7, 2023, attacks. He allegedly held Romi Gonen captive at various sites, including Shifa Hospital, where he functioned as a medical professional. Additionally, the military linked him to the custody of the remains of Corporal Noa Marciano, which were subsequently retrieved by Israeli soldiers.
Romi Gonen eventually regained her freedom following a hostage release deal after 471 days of captivity. Israeli forces conducted the operation after receiving intelligence suggesting Kardi was orchestrating new attacks against civilians and troops. Hamas has yet to respond to these claims, and independent confirmation remains unavailable.
