Iran’s foreign ministry expressed strong condemnation on Monday regarding a recent Ukrainian strike on an Iranian merchant ship located in the Caspian Sea. Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei labeled the operation an unjustified and illegal breach of United Nations protocols, characterizing the move as reckless. He further cautioned that Tehran would not remain passive, warning of significant and unpredictable ramifications for Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Saturday that Ukrainian forces executed long-range strikes targeting ships in the Caspian Sea suspected of moving Iranian military supplies. According to Iranian officials, the incident resulted in the destruction of the vessel, the death of one crew member, and injuries to several others. Baqaei asserted that the Ukrainian government must face accountability for the strike.
