The Interfaith Youth Council of Nigeria (IYCN) is pushing for an open and neutral inquiry regarding the circumstances surrounding nurse Mary Habila’s death. During a media briefing in Bauchi, the organization advised citizens to refrain from spreading rumors and making assumptions while official efforts are underway.
Comrade Moses S. Moses, leading the group, emphasized that the investigation must be conducted with high professional standards. He insisted that the findings should rely strictly on facts, remaining insulated from any political pressure or external interference.
Habila provided medical services for the Minister of Works for three years. While a Ministry of Works document stated that her professional interaction with the Minister was positive, the IYCN noted that this background information should not impact the investigation’s objectivity. The council has formally requested that journalists, political figures, and civil society advocates remain patient and avoid actions that might obstruct the authorities.
The council asserted that a functioning justice system requires formal investigations to establish criminal liability. They expressed their sympathy to the grieving family and encouraged the public to stay patient as the legal system proceeds.
