Prof. Joash Amupitan, who serves as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has emphasized that the upcoming August 15 Osun gubernatorial election should not result in any loss of life. During a Friday visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, HRM Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, Amupitan stressed that political goals must never supersede human lives.
To maintain order, the Commission has partnered with police and defense leadership to implement a dedicated security strategy for the state. Amupitan also warned the public against deceptive videos designed to suppress voter turnout. He reminded stakeholders that a peace agreement was established on Wednesday, shifting the focus to democratic processes rather than conflict.
Furthermore, the electoral body is conducting a mock accreditation trial this Friday. This test spans various local government areas across three senatorial districts to ensure that all voting technology is ready. Amupitan remains committed to ensuring that the residents of Osun can freely exercise their right to elect their next leader.
