Impeached Speaker Obasa Forces Way into Lagos Assembly with Police, Seizes Meranda’s Office
The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, stormed the Assembly complex today, February 27, accompanied by a team of heavily armed security operatives.
This development comes hours after the security details of his successor, Meranda Mojisola, were withdrawn.
Obasa, who was removed from office last month, entered the Assembly complex with more than 11 police officers and proceeded directly to the Speaker’s office, ignoring his colleagues who were seen gathered in the Assembly’s garden discussing the ongoing crisis.
The sudden withdrawal of Meranda’s security aides has left both the Speaker and the legislative building vulnerable, raising concerns about the stability of the Assembly.
Obasa was impeached on January 13 by an overwhelming majority of Lagos State lawmakers and was replaced with Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who became the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
