Imo Gov Announces Clampdown On Tinted Buses To Combat Kidnapping And Banditry
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has clarified that the 72-hour clampdown on tinted commercial buses was in response to reports linking these vehicles to criminal activities, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwuike Nwachukwu, the governor explained that intelligence reports had identified some of the buses as being involved with criminal syndicates. The directive, issued on Wednesday night, mandates that all commercial bus operators in the state remove tinted windows within 72 hours or face legal consequences.
The statement read, “Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the clampdown on all tinted vehicles used for commercial activities in the state, following reports of their involvement in criminal acts. Most notably, commercial buses with tinted glasses have been linked to crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and hit-and-run incidents.”
To tackle the rising crime, Governor Uzodimma has instructed security agencies to collaborate with designated government officials in enforcing the directive. He emphasized that defaulters who fail to comply within the three-day grace period will face prosecution.
