A group of activists known as SAVE IMO has petitioned the State Commissioner for Education to cancel the 2026 Common Entrance and Primary Six First School Leaving Certificate examinations. Led by Ebubeagu Ekenulo, the organization claims the July 17 testing process was marred by administrative failures and harsh conditions that negatively impacted students.
The group strongly criticized the decision to hold both critical exams on a single day, arguing that it created an unfair burden on pupils. Reports indicate that at various testing locations, children were forced to finish their papers in the dark. Some parents were compelled to use car headlights, candles, and flashlights to assist their children, with testing continuing until late in the evening. This prompted significant safety and security concerns among families.
Furthermore, the group highlighted reports of insufficient question papers, which allegedly resulted in some students finishing their exams on a subsequent day using previously circulated materials. SAVE IMO maintains that this gap introduced risks of cheating and compromised the integrity of the results. Consequently, the organization is demanding that the state nullify the current results and organize a new, properly supervised examination process within the next 30 days.
