House of Representatives to Host Major Security Dialogue on Plateau State Crisis
The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Security has unveiled plans for an expansive, multi-stakeholder conference aimed at addressing the persistent cycle of violence in Plateau State.
This legislative intervention follows a surge of unrest in Jos, which began with coordinated attacks by gunmen and subsequently intensified through retaliatory strikes. By convening this dialogue, the committee intends to look beyond immediate security responses to uncover the underlying causes of the conflict and establish a framework for enduring peace.
Wale Hammed, the chairman of the committee, issued a broad invitation to a diverse group of participants, including government officials, traditional leaders, security agencies, and civil society organizations.
The conference, titled “Restoring Stability and Unity: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Security in Plateau State and Beyond,” is designed to be an inclusive platform where academic researchers and international partners can collaborate with local leaders and the general public.
The goal is to move from reactive measures toward a unified strategy that promotes reconciliation and long-term stability.
At the conclusion of the event, the committee plans to release a formal communiqué detailing the specific recommendations and strategies identified during the sessions.
Legislators hope that by fostering open reflection on real-life experiences and shared insights, they can develop a practical roadmap to secure the future of Plateau State. This move reflects a growing recognition that sustainable security in the region requires a collaborative approach involving all sectors of society.
