Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has advised members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the region to focus on acquiring entrepreneurial skills instead of pursuing conventional office positions after their service concludes. Speaking at the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop in Uyo, the governor emphasized that self-employment is a more sustainable path to financial independence and leadership.
Represented by Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Governor Eno highlighted the importance of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. He noted that in a country with a rising population and constrained resources, creating jobs is far more valuable than seeking them. The governor lauded the dedication of current corps members, citing the recent success of a volunteer at a school in Okobo as a prime example of excellence in service. He called upon local stakeholders to deepen their cooperation to better support the welfare and development of those serving in the state.
