Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping of students and teachers. The restricted areas are those located near the Old Oyo National Park, where bandits are reportedly holding 39 students and seven teachers abducted last month from Oriire Local Government Area.
This emergency measure was announced on Tuesday by Professor Musibau Babatunde, the Secretary to the Oyo State Government. According to Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the curfew commences on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The mandate requires residents to remain indoors between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. for an initial period of 48 hours.
The affected jurisdictions include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba local government areas.
