Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has officially enacted three executive orders focused on curbing political violence, unauthorized mining, and substance abuse. Zainab Jalingo, the Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, confirmed the development on Sunday.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse, Governor Kefas labeled it a major threat that destabilizes families and encourages criminal behavior. He explained that these new measures empower state authorities to prosecute offenders more effectively while bolstering rehabilitation and youth-focused support programs.
Regarding political stability, the governor implemented a strict ban on the recruitment, financing, or support of political thugs. This mandate aims to minimize election-related intimidation and destruction as the state approaches a new political cycle.
Furthermore, the governor expressed alarm over environmental degradation caused by illegal logging and mining. He stated that these unauthorized activities harm water sources and farmland, jeopardizing the livelihoods of local residents. These orders are intended to protect the state’s natural resources and ensure that any mining operations are conducted lawfully.
Governor Kefas appealed to religious leaders, traditional rulers, and the general public to collaborate with the government to ensure the success of these initiatives in maintaining peace and regional stability.
