The Federal Government College Kano Old Students Association (FGCKOSA) has initiated a legal challenge at the Federal High Court in Abuja. They aim to halt the transformation of school land into a private housing estate. According to Aminu Haruna Maipampo, the association’s national publicity secretary, the case is assigned to Justice Inyang Ekwo, with proceedings set for 8 July 2026.
The lawsuit targets a public-private partnership involving the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Pluck Global Company Limited, the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, and the Attorney-General of the Federation. The association argues that these entities are attempting to illegally repurpose educational land for commercial gain.
FGCKOSA reports that previous requests for transparent documentation regarding the deal were ignored. Furthermore, they allege that developers have begun marking the property despite an active court order in Kano intended to freeze such activity. The group contends that removing 30 hectares from the school grounds threatens the institution’s capacity for security, recreation, and future expansion.
The alumni association is seeking a judicial declaration that public educational land cannot be sold or leased as private property. They also request a permanent injunction to stop all construction or land-use changes until the court rules on the legality of the transaction. The group emphasized that they are not anti-development but insist that school assets should not be traded away in opaque deals that undermine the public interest.
