Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accepted an appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Board, reversing his previous public declaration to remain away from government service. President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment on Monday via a statement from Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, which included 26 total appointments across 10 federal agencies.
In October 2025, during an interview on Channels Television, the Peoples Democratic Party figure asserted that he would not serve in President Tinubu’s administration. At 65 years old, Fayose stated he preferred to stay home rather than accept a political role after completing two terms as governor. He emphasized at the time that his friendship with the President did not imply alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
This new appointment marks a direct departure from the position he held less than a year ago. The Presidency confirmed that all newly announced roles are effective immediately.
