Fatal hit-and-run incident claims life of 19-year-old student in Bauchi

A 19-year-old university student, Rebecca Kambai, was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Bauchi-Jos Road while returning home from a motor park.

Rebecca Kambai, a 19-year-old student in her final year at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, died on Tuesday following a hit-and-run collision on the Bauchi-Jos Road. The tragedy occurred when an unidentified driver of a Sharon commercial bus struck the motorcycle she was riding near the Police Officers’ Mess and fled the scene.

Reports indicate that the student had returned home for a holiday break. She had traveled to a local motor park near the Awala Hotel to retrieve personal belongings sent by friends. While her brother was transporting her back home on a motorcycle, the collision took place as they attempted to turn toward the New GRA area.

The impact threw Rebecca onto the roadway, resulting in fatal head trauma. She was declared deceased upon arrival of responders, while her brother suffered injuries and was subsequently transported to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital. The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on July 14, 2026. Authorities are currently searching for the driver of the Sharon bus, who escaped immediately after the impact.
