Family Mourns Nine-Year-Old Girl Following Fatal Incident in Arbroath

A nine-year-old girl from West Yorkshire has died after being found injured at an industrial estate in Arbroath, with a 35-year-old man now facing charges.

The relatives of nine-year-old Minnie Merriman have expressed their profound grief following her passing. Minnie, a resident of West Yorkshire, succumbed to her injuries at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee on Sunday. Authorities had been dispatched to the Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath shortly after midnight after reports surfaced that a young girl had been discovered in critical condition.

A 35-year-old man, who had a personal connection to the child, has been formally charged in relation to the incident and is scheduled to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court. Police Scotland confirmed that they are not seeking any additional suspects.

In an official statement, the family remembered Minnie as an incredible, brave, and beautiful child, while requesting privacy as they navigate this difficult period. The family had been camping in the area at the time of the event and is currently receiving assistance from specialist support officers. Detective Inspector Mike Ness stated that the thoughts of the investigative team remain with the family, noting that police will continue to maintain a presence in the vicinity as the inquiry proceeds.
