On Saturday evening, a homemade bomb detonated outside a high-end restaurant in central Moscow, resulting in three fatalities and 21 injuries, as reported by Russian officials. The incident took place just before 8:00 p.m. local time at the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant, situated within a historic Stalin-era skyscraper at Kudrinskaya Square.
The Russian Anti-Terrorism Committee stated that a security guard blocked an unidentified woman from entering the establishment. An explosion followed shortly after, claiming the lives of the woman, the guard, and a customer. The injured parties were transported to hospitals for care.
While investigators have yet to identify the victims or determine who was behind the attack, reports from the newspaper Kommersant suggest the device might have been meant for guests on the outdoor terrace. Sources indicated the bomb could have been triggered remotely and the woman might have been unaware of the device’s contents. Although the restaurant was holding a private event, its website noted it was officially closed to the public at the time.
