Ex-Police Chief Suleiman Abba Leaves APC for PDP

Former Inspector-General of Police Suleiman Abba has defected to the PDP, citing a desire to pursue a 2027 senatorial bid after being sidelined by the APC.

Suleiman Abba, the former Inspector-General of Police, has formally exited the All Progressives Congress to align with the Peoples Democratic Party. He revealed this move on Saturday during a meeting with prominent PDP founder Sule Lamido in Bamaina, Jigawa State.

Abba explained that his shift in allegiance stems from a commitment to represent his constituents, who have urged him to run for the Jigawa South-West Senate seat in the 2027 elections. He noted that his prior attempt to obtain the APC ticket was blocked despite meeting all necessary screening criteria. He stated that he is moving to the PDP to find a platform where his experience and desire to serve are genuinely valued.

Sule Lamido welcomed the decision, characterizing Abba as a high-profile addition who will bolster the party’s reputation. The gathering included several PDP gubernatorial figures from various northern states, signaling broader regional political shifts. Babandi Gumel, the PDP Chairman for Jigawa, confirmed that the party is already working to incorporate Abba and his followers into their local political framework to strengthen their influence in the region.
