Emily Scarratt, England’s all-time leading points scorer, has accepted a full-time position within the Red Roses coaching staff. The 36-year-old, who boasts 119 international caps and remains the only English player to feature in five Rugby World Cups, initially served as the lead attack and backs coach under John Mitchell during the Women’s Six Nations on a temporary basis.
After helping guide the team to their eighth consecutive championship victory, Scarratt will vacate her assistant coaching post at Loughborough Lightning. She spent eight years with the Premiership Women’s Rugby club, balancing playing duties and coaching roles. Reflecting on the transition, Scarratt noted that moving into a coaching capacity within the national squad was an intimidating but highly rewarding endeavor that yielded significant personal growth.
John Mitchell praised the former World Cup champion for her contributions, citing her poise, deep understanding of the game, and professional experience as vital components for the squad. Her appointment follows the departure of former attack coach Lou Meadows. Scarratt expressed her gratitude toward the Loughborough organization for their long-term support as she embarks on this permanent chapter with the national team.
