Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed that security forces apprehended eight suspects and killed several others during the rescue of teachers and students in the Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The arrested individuals are presently held by the Department of State Services.
Onanuga shared this update on social media this past Saturday. He emphasized that the operation involved no negotiations, rejecting the kidnappers’ demands to free a specific detained gang leader who is currently facing legal prosecution. Authorities stated that no concessions were made to secure the safe return of the victims.
While local media outlets previously confirmed the successful Friday rescue mission, further details regarding the tactical operation will be released by security agencies in the near future.
