Operatives from the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) recently detained two individuals accused of peddling narcotics in Benin City. The arrests took place in the King Square district while the suspects were allegedly selling illicit substances to the public.
Deputy Commander of Operations, Richard Balogun, verified the arrests, explaining that they occurred during a strategic surveillance mission designed to remove criminal activity from the state capital. He noted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to secure public areas and disrupt local drug trade networks.
Balogun stated that the team acted on reliable intelligence to conduct the raid at King Square, which serves as a major transit and commercial center for the city. He emphasized that criminals have been targeting this high-traffic zone to exploit visitors and residents.
Authorities recovered various items believed to be hard drugs from the pair. The suspects have since been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force to face further inquiry and potential prosecution as officials continue to investigate the scope of their illegal operations.
