The Ebonyi State branch of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has formally requested that political figures prioritize substance over rhetoric during the upcoming 2027 election cycle. They explicitly warned against personal attacks and language that could incite division.
This request was finalized during a gathering at the Dr. Sam Egwu Press Centre in Abakaliki, led by Chairman Samson Nwafor. The group emphasized that candidates should align their platforms with democratic growth and established electoral regulations.
Addressing local agricultural issues, the union noted that slow delivery of farming supplies threatens food security. They urged the state to expedite distribution to actual farmers. Additionally, the union cautioned citizens in vulnerable areas to follow flood safety protocols and keep drainage paths clear.
Finally, the union called upon Governor Francis Nwifuru to provide a replacement site for a planned journalists’ housing estate, as their previous land allocation was revoked. The members pledged to maintain professional integrity while supporting the state’s progress.
