The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has formally requested that Governor Francis Nwifuru prioritize the completion of stalled projects across Ebonyi State instead of focusing on his 2027 re-election campaign. Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu, the group’s president, stated that the governor has failed to deliver significant infrastructure during his time in office, making a second term focus seem unproductive.
This call for accountability stems from a circulating video showing Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi inspecting a defective bridge project in the Ebonyi Local Government Area. The group highlighted this as part of a recurring issue involving poorly executed construction projects, including unfinished flyovers and canceled road segments. AEISCID further alleged that government contracts are frequently awarded to inexperienced, newly registered companies.
Addressing the poor state of public works, the group cited a N6.2 billion classroom construction contract as an example of questionable spending. While the State Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession, Engr. Abara, claimed the bridge issues were due to temporary construction measures, the association rejected this explanation. AEISCID concluded by urging the State House of Assembly to utilize legal provisions, such as the Fiscal Responsibility Act, to hold the administration accountable for project failures.
