Dr. Nonye Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, has been named the winner of the health activism category at the 2026 BudgIT Active Citizens Awards. This accolade, now in its third year, celebrates those driving significant social change and accountability within Nigeria.
Mrs. Soludo was recognized specifically for her work with the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, which focuses on public health advocacy and preventive care. She successfully competed against fellow nominees Ramatu Ada Ochekliye and Sidney Sampson after a thorough evaluation of their leadership, innovation, and community impact.
Upon accepting the honor, Mrs. Soludo dedicated the achievement to her team, volunteers, and the people of Anambra. She noted that collective community action is essential for long-term health improvements. She also thanked BudgIT, Civic Hive, and the Ford Foundation for the acknowledgement.
Daniel Ezeigwe, Senior Special Assistant to the First Lady, stated that the award validates the success of her health campaign. Since taking on her role, Mrs. Soludo has launched various projects, including nutrition programs, fitness initiatives, and school-based health support to address issues like childhood malnutrition.
