Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has faced a rocky journey to the big screen.
From the outset, lead actress Rachel Zegler faced backlash over her casting, with critics arguing the character should have “skin as white as snow.”
The controversy deepened when Zegler criticized aspects of the original film, calling it scary and suggesting that the prince acted like a stalker.
Further debate arose after actor Peter Dinklage, who has achondroplasia (a form of dwarfism), slammed the remake as “backward.” Disney responded by promising to “avoid reinforcing stereotypes”—even dropping dwarfs from the title.
Originally set for 2024, the film was delayed by a year due to the Hollywood actors’ strike.
After a scaled-down premiere last Wednesday, the long-awaited adaptation—also starring Gal Gadot—finally arrives in UK cinemas this Friday.
