The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun I Area Command has rejected claims that smugglers obstructed the Idiroko–Sango Ota road in Ogun State. Officials characterized the reports as baseless, attributing the situation to a routine traffic incident.
Superintendent of Customs Zakari Chado, speaking for the Command, explained that a commercial trailer broke down after encountering a severe road failure on Atan Road. The resulting congestion involved standard commercial trucks transporting red palm oil, which some observers erroneously associated with smuggling activity.
The NCS urged the public and media to verify information before sharing, warning that false narratives incite panic and weaken trust in security personnel. Currently, under Acting Customs Area Controller Comptroller O.O. Afeni, the Command has been actively increasing anti-smuggling efforts, resulting in significant seizures and strengthened border security.
Industry experts and stakeholders emphasize that the current security climate is stable. They encouraged citizens to support the integrity of border operations by ignoring unverified rumors and focusing on the official progress being made against economic sabotage.
