The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has formally requested that Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, temporarily step aside from his role. This demand follows serious bribery accusations linked to the establishment of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and Presidential Economic Advisory Council.
An individual named Adeniyi Adeyemi claims that Gbajabiamila solicited N27.4 billion and accepted N400 million via intermediaries to secure his appointment as Director-General of this agency. Adeyemi asserts that his appointment was legitimate, supported by documentation allegedly provided by the Chief of Staff’s office.
The CDHR emphasizes that urging Gbajabiamila to leave his post is not an assumption of guilt. Instead, the group views this as a crucial measure to guarantee a transparent, impartial, and credible investigation. They argue that such a move would protect the integrity of the process and demonstrate that no government official is exempt from legal scrutiny.
The Presidency has dismissed these claims, asserting that the Chief of Staff is not responsible for issuing appointment letters. Meanwhile, the controversy continues to draw significant public and political attention.
