The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan held a funeral service this past Saturday for 27 of the 30 individuals slain during a recent raid on Naridon village. The remaining three victims were laid to rest earlier in the week. The assault took place late Sunday night when armed individuals invaded the farming community situated on the border of Kaduna and Plateau states.
Reports indicate that the attackers killed at least 30 people, including minors, while setting fire to multiple residences and abducting others while they slept. Bishop Julius Yakubu Kundi of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan requested that the caskets be positioned in a single line to serve as a visual indictment of the failure to ensure community safety. During the service, the Bishop stated that the arrangement was intended to show Nigeria that protection efforts were insufficient. He offered his deepest condolences to the grieving families, particularly the mothers enduring the loss of their children.
President Bola Tinubu has since instructed security forces to apprehend the perpetrators of this violence. The President also extended his sympathies to the Kaduna State government and all those affected by the tragedy.
