Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso and WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are set to spearhead the 7th Africa Emerging Markets Forum in Abuja this week. The event gathers global economic experts and policymakers to develop strategies for bolstering the continent’s resilience against international economic volatility.
Hosted by the Central Bank of Nigeria alongside the Emerging Markets Forum and the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa, the two-day summit takes place on July 29 and 30. A central feature is a fireside discussion between Cardoso and Okonjo-Iweala centered on maintaining economic resilience in a period of geopolitical instability.
The assembly will include finance ministers, central bank leaders, and private sector representatives to discuss regional integration and reform. Keynotes will also be provided by Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Kingsley Udeh, who will emphasize the importance of aligning fiscal, monetary, and innovation strategies. Other notable guests include World Bank Chief Economist Indermit Gill and Emerging Markets Forum CEO Harinder Kohli. Participants will analyze various topics ranging from macroeconomic stability and artificial intelligence to infrastructure and foreign direct investment, aiming to foster practical policy solutions for sustainable growth across Africa.
