Jos Buttler has attributed his recent return to top form to a pivotal discussion with England batting coach Marcus Trescothick. This guidance helped him surpass the career T20 run-scoring record, moving past Kieron Pollard’s total of 14,803 runs. During a dominant performance for the Manchester Super Giants, Buttler smashed a 20-ball 51, marking his third half-century in just four innings.
The 35-year-old previously struggled during the T20 World Cup, where he averaged only 10.87. Reflecting on that slump, Buttler explained that Trescothick suggested a technical focus to clear his mind. By correcting a flawed trigger movement—which had been causing his body to twist—Buttler was able to improve his vision and bat alignment, ultimately allowing him to play with more freedom.
Currently, Buttler sits second in the Hundred’s run-scoring charts with 277 runs and has struck 20 sixes this season. As Buttler continues to evolve his game, Trescothick prepares to step in as interim head coach for England’s upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
