Burna Boy Sets New Spotify Streaming Record for African Musicians

Burna Boy has become the African artist with the highest number of monthly Spotify listeners in history, nearing the 50 million mark.

Nigerian musician Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has achieved a historic milestone by securing the highest number of monthly listeners ever recorded for an African artist on Spotify. The performer, often called the African Giant, reached 46.84 million listeners, moving past the previous record of 46.58 million held by South African star Tyla.

Currently, Burna Boy commands 47.3 million monthly listeners and appears set to be the first African act to reach the 50 million threshold. This growth is largely driven by the popularity of his World Cup collaboration with Shakira, titled Dai Dai. The track successfully reached the top position on the Spotify Global Top Songs chart, an accomplishment not achieved by an African artist since Wizkid appeared on Drake’s 2016 single, One Dance.
