“Over 200 Dead, You Declared Holiday For President?” — Comedian Efe Warriboy Slams Benue Governor Alia Over Tinubu’s Visit
Popular Nigerian comedian Efe Warriboy has spoken out.
In a video posted on Instagram, he criticized Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia for declaring Wednesday, June 18, a public holiday to welcome President Bola Tinubu—just days after more than 200 people were killed in the Yelewata massacre.
While the state government urged residents to “come out en masse” for the president’s visit, Efe condemned the move, calling it “a mockery of the bereaved.”
He said:
“Regardless of your title — Reverend Father or Senior Pastor — once you get power in Nigeria, a demon enters you. And once you join APC, it gets worse.”
Calling the holiday declaration “nonsense,” he questioned why a governor whose people are in mourning would prioritise political optics.
“A man lost 20 family members. Yet the most important thing to the governor is welcoming Tinubu? The president is supposed to sneak into the state, not expect heroic welcomes. Is he coming to commission projects or dead bodies?”
Efe went on to accuse Governor Alia of “playing politics with people’s lives” in a bid to secure a second-term ticket in 2027.
“Even if politicians have signed a deal with a foreign company to reduce Nigeria’s population, must you rub it in people’s faces?”
He concluded by commending former Governor Samuel Ortom for being outspoken during his time in office and voiced his disappointment in Governor Alia, noting that many had higher expectations of him due to his religious background.
