Soldiers from the 226 Battalion of Operation HADIN KAI intercepted a group of Boko Haram militants attempting to extort illegal taxes from local herders in Borno State. The military operation was initiated following reliable intelligence reports regarding terrorist movements in the region.
Working alongside local hunters, the battalion established an ambush point on the Gaba–Dzangola high ground in the Guyaku District during the night of August 6. A firefight erupted at dawn on August 7, compelling the insurgents to abandon their equipment and flee the area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the military recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a homemade pistol, and three rounds of 9mm ammunition. There were no injuries reported among the government forces.
This mission is part of a broader strategy by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle insurgent financing networks and limit their ability to operate freely. The troops completed a sweep of the vicinity before returning to their base.
