Benue For Good Governance Demands APC Respect Primary Election Results

An advocacy group, Benue for Good Governance, is urging the APC to validate primary election results and ensure transparency before finalizing its official candidate list.

The Benue for Good Governance advocacy group is pressuring the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to confirm the results of its Benue State governorship and State House of Assembly primaries. The call comes as the party prepares to publish its formal list of candidates.

Dr. Philemon Unongo, secretary of the organization, released a statement emphasizing the necessity of transparency and internal democratic integrity within the selection process. The group specifically pointed to the May 2026 primary results, where Governor Hyacinth Alia secured victory with 367,786 votes, significantly outpacing Terwase Orbunde, who received 3,247 votes.

There is anxiety within the group regarding rumors that the party may alter the submitted candidate list, which they warn could damage party unity and member stability. They argue that validating the primary results is vital for keeping the trust of both the party base and the public. To this end, the group has requested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC National Working Committee intervene to ensure the final nominations align with the primary election outcomes. Furthermore, they urged a clear, procedural approach for legislative candidate selection to improve the party’s performance in upcoming contests.
